Shared Rant

If you missed it, let me share a great editorial from the Columbus Dispatch about personal responsibility.

"Regarding the July 31 Dispatch article 'self-sufficiency proves a stretch', I feel we are long overdue for a reality check. We read about a young woman working two jobs to earn $30,000 per year---very laudable. We learn about her three young children, apparently, acording to the three different last names, with a few different fathers who, one assumes by the article, pay no child support.
An accompanying phot of the St. Lawrence Haven food bank shows a line of people, most of whom are obese, none of whom are children; a woman puffing on a cigarette (at almot $5 a pack), and a woman checking her cell phone. The latter two seem to me to be luxuries; the first and second are health hazards.

Sorry, but the just-getting-by segment of our society (my husband and me included) can't continue, thorugh our taxes and contributions, to subsidize those who consistantly make bad life choices, take advantage of existing systems and fail to prioritize their needs vs. their wants." JOANNE CLAIRE - Columbus
Amen. I am also disappointed and disgusted by the so-called poor and working poor who continue to smoke, drink, overeat, and buy things they can't afford and don't need. A two pack a day habit for a family of four will cost around $3,000.00 a year. Add to that alcohol, overeating, and luxuries items then the bill may approach $5,000.00 a year. Imagine the benefits of saving $2,500.00 a year and using the other $2,500.00 for the added cost of energy, additional education, and emergencies. Saving $2,500.00 a year for 20 years will add up to approximately $75,000.00. The irresponsible poor and working poor who continue to make bad life choices don't deserve our help, they deserve our words of correction, they need a life style change, and they need a good dose wisdom.
